MCD crisis: School teachers join the protest

New Delhi: As the indefinite strike by the MCD workers entered its sixth day, school teachers decided to show their solidarity with the protestors by going on an indefinite strike from today.

The showdown between AAP Government and the BJP-led municipal corporations over funding of salaries escalated further as doctors from six hospital and several dispensaries joined the protest on Sunday.

Around 7,000 doctors and 12,000 nurses are said to have joined the strike, which has lead to the lockdown of several hospitals.

Meanwhile, Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain on Sunday morning held an emergency meeting with senior officials from East and North Delhi MCDs to take a stock of the situation.

Around 1.5 lakh MCD workers went on an indefinite strike on January 28 over non-payment of salaries. The MCD employees piled up garbage outside deputy CM Manish Sisodia’s office to show their protest.
