Mehbooba Mufti likely to take oath as J&K CM today

New Delhi: Mehbooba Mufti is expected to take oath this afternoon as the first woman chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to reports, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislature party will be meeting on Friday to take a final call on extending support to Mehbooba Mufti as next Chief Minister.

According to reports, BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav will visit Srinagar on Friday to ensure smooth transistion of power in the state.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had on Thursday unanimously decided that Mehbooba Mufti will take over as the J&K CM.

She will succeed her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who died in Delhi yesterday after a brief illness.

Mehbooba will be J&K’s first female Chief Minister and country's first Muslim woman chief minister.

The oath ceremony is likely to take place at around 3 or 3.30 this afternoon,

CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was admitted to Delhi's All India Medical Institute of Medical Sciences last week, after he was diagnosed with sepsis, low blood counts and pneumonia.
