New Delhi:The 'chaiwala' who proposed PM Narendra Modi's name for the Vadodra seat in the 2014 Lok Sabha election has gone cashless. Now you can sip tea Kiran Mahida's stall and go without paying cash. Yes, you can pay via debit card or e-wallet.
After coming in limelight, Mahida's business has flourished. Most customers are 'mahina' types, that is, they pay bills on monthly basis. Mahida said, "I decided to get a swipe machine so that my customers are able to pay even if they don't have cash. I have been accepting cash all these years but after the demonetization, I decided to go for a card swipe machine. As a responsible citizen, I thought it is better if I do all the transactions through the bank."
His bank will help him the GPRS-enabled swipe machine. He accepts Paytm and e wallet payments.
"Modiji made a roadside tea vendor like me and royal family member Shubhanginiraje Gaekwad proposer for his candidature. Now through demonetization, he has again given equality to the rich and the poor. It is a very good step to bring out the black money," Mahida told The Times of India. For last 50 years, his three generations have been selling, and at the same spot.
Guess what, he has been paying Income Tax for last 5 years.
