Modi’s Muslim outreach: First ‘Progress Panchayat’ today in Mewat

New Delhi:  With UP elections round the corner, the Narendra  Modi  government is will start reaching out to the Muslims through ‘Progress Panchayat’ from Mewat today.  Through panchayats, the government will listen to grievances of the minorities and inform them about the government initiatives for minority welfare. An estimated 18 percent of the voters in UP are Muslims.

The government has chosen strategically chosen Mewat to flag off the programme. A 20-year-old woman and her 14-year-old cousin were sexually assaulted by several men, allegedly by gaurakshaks for eating beef, while their uncle and aunt were beaten to death in their home in Mewat on August 24. 

The programme, to be flagged off by Minority Affairs Minsiter, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi aims to change the negative impression of the Modi government among the Muslims.
