New Delhi, Oct 8: Nothing has made any other any Indian festival more popular by Bollywood than the Karva Chauth. The images of a decked up woman, sometimes Hema Malini, sometimes Kajol, sometimes Aishwarya Rai Bachchan,  fasting the whole day and longing to have a sight of their moon (here husbands) flashes immediately, with the very mention of Karwa Chauth. Karva Chauth is a very special festival for women largely belonging to North India, but such has been its popularity, thanks to Bollywood, it is now celebrated with equal enthusiasm in other parts of India and other countries as well.

Karwa Chauth is celebrated on Krishna Paksha Chaturthi according to Hindu calendar. This is also known as Karak Chaturthi which also coincides with Sankashti Chaturthi, a fasting day observed for Lord Ganesha. Women, especially wives, fast the whole day and participate in a community puja where all women come together to listen to the story of Karva Chauth.
