Muzaffarpur Rapes: Tejashwi Yadav's Dharna at Jantar Mantar a show of solidarity

New Delhi, August 4, News24Bureau: RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav is taking the issue of Muzaffarpur Shelter Home Rapes, which has shamed the nation, a step further. There will a 'dharna' at Jantar Mantar followed by a candle-light march. Sources suggest that Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal will join RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav-led demonstration at the national capital. The march of unity will have bigger implications. The show is being seen as a step towards a 'mahagathbandhan' against PM Narendra Modi in the 2019 Lok sabha elections.Yadav, who is the leader of the opposition in the Bihar state assembly, urged "all to attend" the dharna at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, August 4."Against heinous institutional mass rape in Muzaffarpur sponsored and protected by Nitish government, we will stage a dharna on Saturday, August 4 at Jantar Mantar. Request all to attend", the RJD heir apparent tweeted.Bu all likelihood Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be joining Yadav as well.38iMeanwhile, Yadav put out a fresh tweet today calling his proposed protest "RAGE AGAINST RAPE" and appealed to the people to support the protest."...let us shine a light on the epidemic that is corroding our national pride. Join us at Jantar Mantar for a candle light march in support of the Muzaffarpur rape victims," Yadav tweeted.Sushil Modi said the actions taken after the matter surfaced leave no scope for politics."The state government has handed over investigation of the Muzaffarpur shelter home case to the CBI and the Supreme Court, having taken suo motu cognizance, is determined to bring the guilty to justice. This leaves no scope for politics," Sushil Modi tweeted."Still, if Tejashwi Yadav wants to stage a dharna at Jantar Mantar, then he will only bring shame to Bihar. His recent bicycle rally on the issue of shelter home scandal was a complete flop", the deputy chief minister added. He also pointed out "the state government had itself initiated the process of social audit of all shelter homes and short stay homes in the state by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. Based on its report, the government had itself got an FIR lodged in the case"."Before the case was handed over to the CBI, 10 people had been arrested and charge sheet filed against them in court. Now a request will be made to the High Court for monitoring of the investigation. The opposition has played no role in bringing justice to the aggrieved girls", Sushil Modi said.Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has also expressed anguish over the sexual abuse of girls at the state-funded shelter home and said that those guilty will not be spared at any cost.

The court has already taken a suo motu cognizance of the case and it has been handed over to the CBI.
