Srinagar: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was deployed in the campus of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on late Tuesday night after a group of students clashed with the police.
According to reports, a group of NIT students, all of them non-locals, marched to the gates of the institute shouting slogans. When a senior police officer advised them not to go out of the campus as that could result in a law and order problem, the students refused to listen and some of them manhandled the officer.
Reports further suggest that the police had to resort to a baton charge to disperse the students.
No one sustained any major injuries.
Meanwhile, the NIT was closed by the authorities on March 31 following unrest over India's loss to West Indies in the semi-final of the World Twenty 20.
