NOW YOU DON'T NEED TO KEEP THE PHYSICAL COPY OF YOUR DRIVING LICENCE AND VEHICLE REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE AS YOU CAN KEEP THEIR SOFTCOPY IN THE DIGILOCKER MOBILE APP.
The Indian government has launched a new service which allows vehicle owners to access their driving licence and vehicle RC (registration certificate) digitally through a mobile app. So, now, vehicle owners don't need not carry a physical copy all the time and it will provide convenience to the traffic police as well.
The DigiLocker mobile app was launched in July, 2015, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while this new service was launched by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Minister of Electronics & Information Technology and Law & Justice, Ravi Shankar Prasad, in New Delhi yesterday.
Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “the integration will bring a paradigm shift in the vision of paperless governance. It will serve to bring agility and efficiency to the entire process of issuance of driving licenses and vehicle registration certificates through IT enablement.”
As per a press release issued by the government, driving licenses and vehicle registration documents can now be issued directly to the DigiLockers of individuals in digital formats. The app also allows you to share these digital copies of driving license and registration certificate with other departments for verification purpose.
Android-based smartphone users can download the app from the Play Store. When you search for DigiLocker the Android Play store will give a list of apps with similar identity. However, you can easily find the original one. The app coming on the top of the list which is made by "MeitY, Government of India" is the genuine one.
