Pampore encounter: 5 Army officers, 1 civilian killed

Jammu: Seven people including five army officers, one civilian and one terrorist were killed as the encounter between the security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pampore district entered day 3.

According to reports, three terrorists are holed up inside the multi-storeyed government complex of Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) in Pampore.

The area has been cordoned off and the security forces are engaging in a fierce gunbattle with the heavily armed terrorists.

Reports further suggest that the Army is using quadcopters to spot the location of the militants.

All civilians have been evacuated and two main buildings gave been cleared, Lt. General Satish Dua told the media.

The encounter, which is being jointly conducted by CRPF, J&K Police and Army’s 9 para-regiment, started when militants attacked a CRPF convoy, which was on way from Jammu to Srinagar, near EDI complex on Saturday evening. The militants later entered the institute complex and hurled grenades at the security personnel.
