Aasif Suhaf, Jammu, Sep 10: PDP has come out with an official statement that it will boycott panchayat, local body, polls in Jammu and Kashmir scheduled from next month. This was said by party chief Mehbooba Mufti. Holding a press conference this afternoon, Mufti said the centre must review its decision of holding the polls. She said the sword of 35A is hanging over their heads. The Supreme Court has deferred the hearing on a bunch of petitions challenging Article 35A of the Constitution, as the Centre urged the Court to take up the matter after panchayat elections in the state."PDP will boycott upcoming Panchayat, ULB polls in Jammu Kashmir. Have appealed to the government to defer the polls till the things will get clear on article 35A. PDP wants the Centre and the State to clear doubts of people related to apprehensions of fiddling with 35A and article 370," said PDP President Mehbooba Mufti."By linking article 35A with Panchayat and ULB elections of state government itself created confusion in the minds of people, which is unfortunate and we were left with no option other than to stand with people," added Mehbooba Mufti. But she made her party's stand clear on the issue.Situation linking panchayat polls to 35A case in Supreme Court has created apprehensions in minds of people. Party, therefore, urges the government to review its decision to hold polls at this juncture, she said. The National Conference has also decided to stay away from the local body polls. The People's Democratic Party led by Mehbooba Mufti on Friday decided to boycott upcoming municipal and panchayat polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
