PM Modi likely to reset Cabinet, calls meeting on January 27 to review progress

New Delhi: Amid rumors of Cabinet reset, Prime Minister Narendera Modi has called a meeting of his Council of Ministers, on January 27.

According to reports, the meeting is aimed at reviewing the progress made on important Cabinet decisions taken by his cabinet.

This will be the first major review exercise in 18 months since he assumed office.

Reports claim, each ministry is preparing a list of its achievements and will make a short presentation to apprise Modi.

Independent inputs from Prime Minister's Office, which has been keeping a close watch on the progress of the schemes, will also be taken .

Modi government has overseen rapid economic growth but failed on tax and land reforms.

Moreover, stocks have erased all of their gains since he won power, raising specualtions, the reset may cause movement of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to Defence.

Jaitley, 63, has failed to push through a major tax reform and critics have faulted his stewardship over India's $2 trillion economy, which is growing fast but not creating enough jobs to employ an expanding workforce.
