New Delhi, Feb 23: Amid allegations against Nirav Modi, actress Priyanka Chopra's spokesperson today said that the actress has terminated her contract with the jewellery brand, news agency ANI reported on Friday. The desi girl was appointed as the global brand ambassador for Nirav Modi, who has been accused of committing a major banking fraud.
Earlier last week, amid revelations that Nirav Modi was the prime accused in a Rs 11,515 crore fraud involving the Punjab National Bank, several reports suggested that Priyanka was suing the brand for non-payment of dues.
Her spokesperson, however, clarified that Priyanka had not sued Nirav Modi but was seeking legal opinion to terminate her contract. "There are speculative reports that Priyanka Chopra has sued Nirav Modi. This is not true. However, she is currently seeking legal opinion with respect to terminating her contract with the brand in light of allegations of financial fraud against Nirav Modi," Priyanka's spokesperson said on February 15, reported news agency IANS.
The Enforcement Directorate, meanwhile, seized at least nine imported vehicles and froze assets of Nirav Modi, including a large collection of imported watches and Rs 44 crore worth shares belonging to him, ANI reported Friday.
Nirav Modi, his uncle and Gitanjali Gems promoter Mehul Choksi and others are being investigated by the ED and other probe agencies after it recently came to light, following a complaint by the PNB, that they allegedly cheated the nationalised bank to the tune of Rs 11,400 crore, with the purported involvement of a few employees of the bank.
