Pune: A 40 years old software engineer named Manoj Patidar was arrested in Pune on thursday for allegedly murdering his gynaecologist wife, at her clinic in the city's Wakad locality on Wednesday night.
The couple's four-year-old son Prayag was fast asleep next to Anjali on a sofa when Manoj shot her in the temple from point blank range around 9pm, the police said. Manoj fled the scene in his car, leaving a bleeding Anjali and their son in the clinic.
The police nabbed Manoj from Narhe on the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass within an hour after his mother called up the police control room, saying her son had told her that "he had injured Anjali". The police are yet to recover the pistol used to kill Anjali.
"We have received the information that Manoj Patidar, who works in an IT firm in Hinjawadi IT hub, had procured the country-made pistol for Rs. 20,000 a week ago," Assistant Police Inspector, Wakad Police station, Mahendra Aher said.
Manoj had married twice before, and both his wives had allegedly committed suicide. "During his interrogation, we have come to know that his earlier two wives died in mysterious circumstances as he is claiming that they had allegedly committed suicide by falling off from building. However, foul play is suspected in earlier deaths," Mahendra added.
