Kolkata, Oct 9: There is fresh trouble for expelled CPM leader and Rajya Sabha MP Ritabrata Banerjee. Now a woman has alleged that the MP raped her by making false marriage promises. In a series of tweets, tagged to top political leaders and PMO, the woman has also alleged that Banerjee also offered her money to keep shut, and do not go public. Meanwhile, Banerjee has dismissed the allegations as baseless and an extortion attempt.
The alleged victim took to twitter and explained the entire series of events. She tweeted that Banerjee took her to her flat and sexually exploited her. And, when she protested she was offered Rs 2.5 lakh to keep quiet.
Denying the allegations, the Rajya Sabha MP has filed a police complaint against the alleged victim, terming the charges as criminal intimidation and an extortion bid. "Hard Facts. 'Manufactured Lies' will be combatted. Will not succumb to 'politically aided' threats," Banerjee tweeted.
Banerjee is not new to controversy, as a CPM member he angered senior leaders with his flamboyant lifestyle. Then in September he was expelled by the party after he gave an interview to a news channel criticising the senior leaders. Rumours say that he is likely to join BJP soon.
