Rhino carcass found in Kaziranga National Park

Jorhat: The carcass of an adult male Rhino was found dead at Kaziranga National Park in Assam.

According to reports, the forest officials of Tunikati and Phulaguri camp heard several gunshots around midnight and launched an operation immediately.

On reaching the site, the officials found the carcass of the rhino with its horn taken away.

The authorities recovered 26 numbers of empty cartridges and 2 numbers live cartridges of Insas rifle and M-16 Rifle from the site.

Kaziranga is the home to the largest population of world’s one-horned rhino. The species has been listed as "vulnerable" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Earlier this month, at least three rhinos were reported to be killed by the poachers at the Kaziranga National Park.
