New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will leave for Nepal to attend the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) ministerial meeting in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
The session of the Standing Committee of the SAARC, which is a Foreign Secretaries level forum, will be held on March 16 and will prepare ground for Session of the Council of Ministers on March 17.
The meeting will be attended by Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar.
On SAARC meeting, MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup said that India's focus would be not only to take stock of the decisions but also to work out the way forward on priority issues.
The EAM Swaraj is also likely to meet Pakistan PM's Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on the sidelines of SAARC ministerial-level meeting in Nepal.
Although the bilateral meeting has not been confirmed yet, reports suggest that both the sides were exploring possibility of meetings between their foreign ministers and foreign secretaries.
Meanwhile, a release by the Pakistan Foreign Ministry said that Aziz will meet Foreign Ministers of SAARC Countries on the sidelines of the SAARC Council of Ministers' meeting on 17 March 2016 in Nepal to extend Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's formal invitation to their respective Heads of State for the 19th SAARC Summit, being hosted by Pakistan in Islamabad this year.
