Guwahati (Assam): Sarbananda Sonowal was on Tuesday sworn-in as the chief minister of Assam at the Veterinary College in Guwahati city.
Along with the first BJP chief minister in the state, ten other ministers also took their oaths, including Himanta Biswa Sarma: the leader who crossed over to the BJP from the Congress last year and is credited with adding much fire power to the BJP's campaign in this election.
Of the 10 ministers who took oath in the Sonowal Cabinet, six belong to the BJP camp, whereas two each hail from alliance partners Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF).
Over 100 VVIPs attended the oath taking ceremony, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal of the Akali Dal, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, and several other Union ministers.
Former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi was also reportedly present at the ceremony.
