Sarbjit opened to mixed reviews from the critics, but the film struck an emotional chord with the audience. Despite viewers giving it a thumbs up, the film couldn't manage to cast its magic at the box office on its opening day. The film earned Rs 3.69 crore on Day 1.
Sarbjit is based on the life of Indian farmer Sarabjit Singh, who was convicted of terrorism by a court in Pakistan. The film stars Randeep Hooda in titular role, while Aishwarya Rai Bachchan plays the role of Sarabjit Singh's sister Dalbir Kaur. Richa Chadha is seen as Sarabjit's wife in the film.
The film had an occupancy rate of 15 to 20 percent in morning shows. Randeep Hooda was appreciated for his performance in the film. The Highway actor said, "Sarbjit could definitely work as a basis of protest against the unfair, it might just shake things up and bring one's separated people together."
Directed by Omung Kumar, Sarbjit hit the screens on May 20 this year.
