New Delhi, Oct 1, News24 Bureau: The factual details of this piece of news are certainly shocking. Devendra Fednavis government appears too pleased with Bhima Koregaon violence accused Sambhaji Bhide.
"Filed RTI to seek information on how many cases against political leaders and their supporters were withdrawn since 2008. 3 cases against Bhima Koregaon violence accused Sambhaji Bhide were withdrawn and 9 cases against BJP and Shiv Sena leaders are withdrawn," revealed RTI activist Shakeel A Shaikh.
The Maharashtra government has withdrawn at least six riot cases against the main suspect in Koregaon-Bhima violence Sambhaji Bhide who is also a right-wing leader. Not just this, hundreds of workers of the Shiv Pratishthan Hindustan, an outfit headed by Mr Bhide, have been cleared in rioting cases. Along with this the rioting charges have also been dropped in dozens of cases involving BJP and Shiv Sena leaders and supporters.
But the police have clarified that no charges against 85-year-old Sambhaji Bhide and others have been removed in Koregaon-Bhima violence case.
Pune Superintendent of Police (SP) Sandeep Patil told news agency ANI, "The investigation is in progress."
The story earlier:
A day after prominent Dalit leader Prakash Ambedkar had accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “shielding” Hindutva leader Sambhaji Bhide, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had said that there was “no evidence” to prove Bhide’s involvement in the January 1 caste riots in Bhima-Koregaon. Fadnavis said although an offence has been registered against Bhide, alias Guruji, who heads the Shri Shiv Pratishthan, based on a complaint by a woman, there is no evidence to prove that he had “instigated” the riots that day. “Based on the complaint by the woman, police had registered a case against Bhide Guruji. The complainant’s statement was recorded in camera before a Chief Metropolitan Magistrate. She told the magistrate that she had not seen Bhide Guruji taking part or instigating the riots. She had named him as an accused based on speculation that was on in the locality,” Fadnavis told the assembly during a discussion on the law and order situation in the state.
Since the rioting, Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh (BBM) President Prakash Ambedkar, the grandson of Architect of Indian Constitution B. R. Ambedkar, and others have accused Hindutva elements of having instigated the riots and sought their arrest.
