Siachen tragedy: All 10 soldiers confirmed dead; India condoles

New Delhi: All ten soldiers, who were hit by an avalanche at world’s highest battle field- Siachen, have been confirmed dead.

Army and Air Force teams with specialized equipment were flown in from Leh to rescue the officers, who had gone missing after their post was buried under a mass of snow on Thursday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolence to the families of the soldiers. "Demise of soldiers in Siachen is very tragic. I salute the brave soldiers who gave their lives to the nation. Condolences to their families", he tweeted.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said, “My heartfelt condolences to the near and dear ones of our brave soldiers who were martyred in the line of duty in the most difficult terrain of Siachen. It is our duty to take care of their families.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi too offered his condolence and said, “Very sad to know that 10 of our brave soldiers lost their lives in an avalanche in Siachen.”

“My thoughts and prayers are with soldiers' families,” he added.
