Srinagar: Asia's largest Tulip garden, which is located on the banks of Dal Lake, was thrown open for the tourists on Tuesday.
Formerly known as Siraj Bagh, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden has a total of 1.5 million Tulips and its opening marks the beginning of tourist season in the valley.
According to reports, the Tulip garned was opened two weeks ahead of its scheduled opening date following warmer days in the valley leading to early blooming of flowers.
Spread over in an area of about 12 hectare, the garden is located on the foothills of the Zabarwan range. It was opened by former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in 2008.
