New Delhi: World is full of anomalies and medical mysteries. While some diseases have been eliminated, others are waiting to be diagnosed.
‘Stiff Skin Syndrome’ is one such disease that literally turns the skin into stone.
SSS also known as ‘Cogenital Fascial Dystrophy’ is a skin condition, which is characterized by non-inflammatory fibrosis of subcutaneous cell tissue, leading to hardening of skin, limited joint mobility, loss of body fat and abnormal hair growth.
The condition may appear at the time of birth or may become apparent before the age of 6.
Not much is known about this condition, as has been reported only 41 times till date.
No effective treatment for SSS exists till date. However, physiotherapy appears to improve joint movement.
