This MUSLIM leader wants Ram Temple at Babri Masjid site

New Delhi, Oct 31: There seems to be some breakthrough in Ram Temple dispute resolution. At least one top Muslim leader is in favour of building a temple at the disputed site. First signs of dispute resolution emerged after UP Shia Central Waqf Board Chairman Waseem Rizvi met Art of Living chief Sri Sri Ravishankar on Tuesday. Sri Sri has taken an initiative to find an out-of-court settlement in the Babri-Masjid-Ram Temple dispute in Ayodhya.

“I met Gurudev Sri Sri ji and insisted that the Ram Temple should be built on the Ram Janmbhoomi site itself and that there was no need to construct a mosque there. The mosque should come up in a Muslim-dominated locality, if required, as there are already enough of them to cater to the Muslim population in Ayodhya and Faizabad,” Rizvi was quoted as saying after the meeting. Earlier, some members of members of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) had met Sri Sri on October 27 to discuss the issue.

Taking a stand that will make the Hindus happy, Rizvi said the AIMPLB has no role in the dispute and only Shia waqf board has a claim on the land of the disputed site. AIMLB may not be directly involved in the case, but its stand is important. As an apex Islamic body on religious and personal matters it wields a lot of influence over the Muslims. “I have met all the Mahants and those fighting the court battle for the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. They have all agreed to a mutually agreeable solution. The Shia Waqf Board is drafting the terms and conditions of a mutual agreement,” Rizvi added. However, he refused to divulge what Sri Sri said.

Though Rizvi is in support of Ram Temple, but Shias are divided on the issue. “Only a mosque can be built at the site. The mosque does not belong to any Shia or Sunni; it is the house of God and belongs to Him. The UP government has a dossier of Waseem’s misdeeds in the Board and is going to order a CBI probe,” Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawad has said.

Those opposing Rizvi say that he is taking side of Yogi Aditynath government as he has been accused of bungling of Waqf properties, and now he is trying to save his skin by towing the BJP line.
