You've heard of foods that improve your bodily ailments. However, small dietary changes can also improve your cognitive functions and reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety and other mental health disorders.
Here are three foods that improve your mental health:
* Grains: The primary source of energy for the brain is glucose, which comes from carbohydrates. Simple carbohydrates regulate moods by creating spikes in blood sugar.
* Proteins: The foods we eat are broken down into substances that are used to make neurotransmitters that make different parts of the nervous system communicate effectively with each other and the rest of the body.
* Leafy Greens: Leafy greens such as spinach, romaine, turnip and mustard greens, and broccoli are high in folic acid as well as B vitamins. Deficiencies in these cause higher rates of depression, fatigue and insomnia.
