Trains kills 50 people watching Dussehra celebrations in Amritsar, know how it happened

New Delhi, October 19: In a tragic incident, at least 50 people reportedly died after a DMU train number 74943 ran over many people watching the burning of Ravana effigy on the occasion of the Dussehra at Joda Phatak in Choura Bazar near Amritsar.

Navjot Kaur wife of Navjot Kaur Sidhu was the chief guest at the celebrations.

According to the initial reports, people were standing alongside the railway tracks and could not hear the sound of the train approaching due to the crackers' noise.

As of now 50 people have been reported killed but the toll is expected to rise as per the locals. 

Punjab Govt has announced Rs 5 lakh to the kin of each deceased & free treatment to injured in Government and private hospitals.
