WATCH: Jyotiraditya celebrates Yogi challenge with a sixer on ground

New Delhi, Jan 24: Jyotiraditya Scindia is no stranger to cricket. As a young boy he has seen his Madhavrao Scindia manage Indian cricket as BCCI President. Cricket in his blood and loves the game too. And, the young politician decided to swing his bat as if to celebrate his appointment as key Rahul Gandhi man to oversee Congress campaign in UP and take on Yogi Adityanath.

After scoring a six in the political arena, Scindia enjoyed some cricket in his constituency in Madhya Pradesh. Unable to hide his excitement before elections and World Cup cricket, shared a video of his cricketing skills.  "At All India Cricket Tournament, enjoyed batting at the insistence of young players," commented Scindia.

In the video, Scindia is seen hitting some big hits with the bat. As expected he was surrounded and applauded by his party workers. He is former chief of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association.

A four-time MP from Guna in MP, the former union minister's seat was one of the few that BJP could not win despite the Modi wave in 2014. He was instrumental in Congress revival in his home state, and later Scinda gave up his claim to CM post at the insistence of Congress President Rahul Gandhi.

Rahul rewarded Scindia for his 'sacrifice', and appointed him General Secretary incharge of all importnat West UP in a do or die election for the Congress.

Scindia had responded with this tweet: "I thank Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who has shown faith in me. I will work to the best of my ability to strengthen the party in western Uttar Pradesh."

Pushed to the corner in Uttar Pradesh by the SP-BSP alliance, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday played his trump card by appointing his younger sister Priyanka Gandhi as the party General Secretary in charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh to galvanise the Congress cadre in a state that sends the maximum number of 80 members to the Lok Sabha.

In an organisational shake-up ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the party also announced the appointment of Jyotiraditya Scindia, MP from Guna in Madhya Pradesh, as the Congress General Secretary in charge of western Uttar Pradesh.

This is perhaps the first time the party has split the organisational responsibilities of its General Secretary in Uttar Pradesh into zones.

With both Priyanka Gandhi and Scindia entrusted with eastern and western UP respectively, party veteran Ghulam Nabi Azad, who was the General Secretary of Uttar Pradesh, has now been confined to Haryana.

The Congress, which has been marginalised in Uttar Pradesh after 1989, has come under pressure ever since the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samajwadi Party decided a fortnight ago to join hands in Uttar Pradesh keeping the Congress out of it. The two parties just left Rae Bareli and Amethi for the Congress.

In its best performance since 1989, the Congress won 21 Lok Sabha seats in 2009 but dropped to just two seats of Sonia and Rahul Gandhis in 2014.
