New Delhi, Sep 30: The auspicious festival of Navratri is just round the corner and the enthusiastic devotees are all set to welcome the Goddess with fervor and emotions. Navratri is a nine-day long festival and during these nine days, nine different types of Goddesses are worshipped as Maa Durga manifests herself in nine different ways in these nine days.
People dress in a different colour each day of Navratri as every day has a different ritual associated with the goddesses. Here's the list of colours that you should wear each day and why during these nine days of Navratri:
Day 1- PratipadaShailputri who is an incarnation of the Goddess Parvati is worshipped on the first day of Navratri. 'Shailputri' means 'Daughter of the Mountain' which represents nature and purity so the colour on this day should be Yellow.
Day 2- DwitiyaBrahmacharini is the unmarried form of the Goddess Parvati. She is associated with pious and strictness as she undertook great penance to get Lord Shiva to marry her. The colour to wear on this day is Green.
Day 3- TritiyaChandraghanta is the married form of Goddess Parvati. She has a golden complexion and on her forehead she wears a crescent moon, which is why she is called Chandraghanta by her devotees. The sound vibrations produced by her ghanta (bell) took the lives of many wicked enemies. She rides on a lion and is believed to destroy all evil and wicked. The colour to wear on this day is Grey.
Day 4- ChaturthiBy giving it light and energy, Kushmanda is believed to have created the universe. The goddess is worshipped as the source of everything. the colour to wear on this day is Orange.
Day 5- Panchami The mother of Kartikey, Skandmata is worshipped on this day. The colour to wear on this day is White.
Day 6- ShashthiGoddess Katyayani is a form of Shakti who is depicted as having four arms, and carrying a sword. She rides a lion, and can be pleased with true devotion and piety. She is the daughter of Sage Katyayan. The colour to wear on this day is Red.
Day 7- SaptamiKaalratri is the fierce form of Durga, dark and ferocious in appearance. She possesses three eyes on her forehead that are known to contain the entire universe. She breathes fierce flames of fire, and lustrous rays emanate from her. The colour to wear on this day is Royal Blue.
Day8- AshtamiMahagauri which is the younger version of Shailputri who had fair and perfect complexion. The colour to wear on this day is pink.
Day 9- NavamiGoddess Durga is worshipped as Siddhidatri who embodies all eight siddhis. Purple is the right colour to wear on this day.
