Whistle blower DIG Roopa shunted, gets her marching orders

New Delhi: Is DIG D Roopa being hounded as she gets marching orders and has been transferred by Sidaramaiah goverment in Karnataka. Her mistake: She had dared to expose corruption in the jails of Karnataka.  This gesture of hers had displeased her seniors and the Chief Minister.

The Siddaramiah government was upset that D Roopa had chosen to talk to the media, therby exposing the weakesses within the Kartataka government.  The two senior officers fought it out over providing special facilities, a separate kitchen for  jailed AIADMK General Secretary V.K. Sasikala. There was a furor when DIG (Prisons) Rupa Moudgil alleged  that Sasikala was getting VIP treatment with a makeshift kitchen in her cell in the Parappana Agrahara Jail, with another inmate preparing food for her.

Karnataka's Director General of Prisons H. Satyanarayana Rao has denied charges by a woman police officer that he had taken money to provide special facilities to jailed AIADMK General Secretary V.K. Sasikala.

"Government should do a fact finding enquiry and see if my report is correct, " said DIG(Prisons)D Roopa on report of special facilities to Sasikala. "When I see something and don't report, it's a lapse on my part. I just reported. Let there be an inquiry on what is happening there," she said.

Moudgil levelled the charges in a report to the Director General of Police and the Chief Secretary. Law Minister T.B. Jayachandra has promised to launch a probe and take action, if necessary.

Rao said the allegations were false.

"If she has observed something in prison she should discuss. If she thinks there are allegations against me, I'm open to probe: DG Prisons,Satyanarayan Rao, adding, "I totally deny bribe allegations (for special treatment to Sasikala in jail).

"There is no truth to any allegations in the letter," says DG Prisons Satyanarayan Rao on DIG prisons letter over special facilities to Sasikala in jail.

"Court had ordered to give assistance to her,we are only following court orders," he said.

He said if Moudgil had come to know about the so-called special facilities, she could have discussed it with him. "But to go and discuss it in the open without evidence is wrong."

Rao said in the past he had given memos to her on two occasions when she had gone public on some issues.

Maintaining her charge, Moudgil demanded a fact-finding probe into what she had said. "There are facts in the report (sent by me)."

AIADMK spokesperson C.R. Saraswathi said Sasikala had been dragged into a fight between two officials because she was a VIP and an accusation against an ordinary person would not attract attention.
