Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is a self styled spiritual leader, social reformer, actor, director and singer. He has been the head of the India-based socio-spiritual organization Dera Sacha Sauda (DSS) since 23 September 1990.
At the Age of 23, he became the Third Chief of Dera Sacha Sauda (DSS) group: The only child of his parents, Ram Rahim was born on August 15, 1967 in Sriganganagar, Rajasthan. At the age of 6, he started helping his father by driving tractor on their field. His father was a follower of Shah SatnamJi, the second chief of Dera Sacha Sauda (DSS) group. In 1990, Satnam declared Ram Rahim as his successor. This is how he became third chief of DSS, a group founded in 1948, by a man – Beparawah Mastana Ji Maharaj.

Political influence: Because of his following, he has been described as being politically influential in the Malwa region of Punjab. In 2014 Haryana polls, his organisation supported Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In February 2015, his organisation openly supported BJP in Delhi elections, saying that he has over 20 Lakh followers in Delhi. His organization supported BJP in the Bihar assembly election in 2015, and nearly 3000 Dera followers campaigned for BJP in the state.
