New Delhi: Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the dubious nature of his degree, Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh wondered why Modi has failed to come out in the open to talk about his degree.
“People don’t even know about their prime minister’s degree. Why is PM Modi afraid to come at front to talk about his degree?” Singh questioned at the seventh session of News24 Conclave marking two years of NDA governance.
“BJP’s real picture is RSS’ ideology,” Singh noted. “You (BJP) want to accept Mahatma Gandhi, Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Subhash Chandra Bose; but why not Golwalkar as your spiritual leader.”
Earlier, Digvijaya Singh dismissed allegations of the saffron party that Congress is being run by a dynasty. “Dynasty and Democracy are contradictory in nature. India is a democratic state, and dynasty polity can only be possible in a feudal system.”
When asked if it is all over for Congress, Singh noted that the party has its roots dug deep within the country. “Congress has faced so many ups and downs. When Indira Gandhi lost in elections, people scripted it off. However, three years later we formed the government. In 1994-95, Congress had chief ministers in only two states. But we sprung back hard and received mandate in 2004 and 2009 general elections.
“Congress has always been prepared for change. When the results were bad for us in 2014, an interim committee was formed which introspected the cause of loss in election. However, now (after unsatisfactory results in Assembly polls) we need action,” he added.
Meanwhile, Singh observed that Priyanka Gandhi could bring change in Congress’ performance. “Priyanka Gandhi has strong resemblance with Indira Gandhi. We’ll welcome her graciously if she enters into politics.”
