New Delhi, Feb 17: Xiaomi's first launch for 2018 took place in India in which the company launched the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro mid-range smartphones alongside the year-old Mi TV 4. Now the next smartphone on the company's priority list will be the launch several of flagship phones in the next few months. According to reports, Mi Mix 2S and Mi 7 are likely to be be those high-end smartphones and rumours suggest Xiaomi could launch the former at MWC 2018 later this month.
However, Xiaomi hasn't yet confirmed that it will be attending MWC 2018 to launch new products, the Mi Mix 2S and Mi 7 are as of now the top two contenders for flagship launches in the months ahead. The Mi A2, on the other hand, has not really been talked about much, but rumours are that Xiaomi is planning to launch the Mi 6X for China, which will be the successor to the Mi 5X aka Mi A1. With these three phones expected to arrive soon, here's everything we know so far about them.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S
We have heard plenty of rumours regarding the Mi Mix 2S which is expected to be an upgraded version of the Mi Mix 2. This week, the smartphone came closer to being real after XDA-Developers obtained firmware files that seemingly reveal some details regarding the upcoming flagship. Like the Mix and Mix 2, the Mi Mix 2S will naturally feature a bezel-less display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The phone is expected to be among the first flagships to be powered by the latest Snapdragon 845 chipset. The recent report also suggests the phone will house a 3400mAh battery and will run Android Oreo.
A lot of these specifications have been rumoured in the past as well which only makes it all the more likely that this is what we are going to see. In addition to this, the Mi Mix 2S is expected to get some AI smarts for its rear camera that will allow it to detect scenes such as flower, food, dog, car, building among other things and will take pictures accordingly. This is a feature similar to what we have seen on the Huawei Mate 10.
We've also seen some renders in the past that suggests the Mi Mix 2S will sport a display with almost no bezels around. Notably, the bottom bezel will also be narrower than before and the front camera will be moved to the top right corner. The fingerprint sensor will likely be placed on the rear of the handset. However, with in-display fingerprint sensors now a real thing thanks to the Vivo X20 Plus UD, Xiaomi could surprise everyone with an under display fingerprint sensor for the Mi Mix 2S as well. Xiaomi is yet to confirm the existence of the Mi Mix 2S and whether it plans to unveil it at MWC, but we could hear in the coming days.
Xiaomi Mi 7
Perhaps more than any other phone, the Mi 7 is the most likely launch to take place in the first half of this year. The successor to last year's Mi 7 has also been rumoured quite a bit and unlike the Mi Mix 2S, Xiaomi is likely planning a standalone event some time in April to unveil the flagship. Xiaomi started the bezel-less craze with the Mi Mix-series and recently launched the Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro with 18:9 displays in India. In keeping with that trend, the Mi 7 is also expected to sport an 18:9 display with minimal bezels. Moreover, the smartphone could come jam-packed with powerful under-the-hood specs.
Xiaomi Mi A2
There has been little to no rumour about the Mi A2 or that Xiaomi is working on a successor to the Mi A1 smartphone. The Mi A1 that was launched in India last year was Xiaomi's first Android One smartphone that came with stock Android software. In China, the Mi A1 actually goes by the name of Mi 5X and runs MIUI 9. Now, while there hasn't been any talk of the Mi A2, there are rumours of Xiaomi working on a Mi 6X smartphone and may unveil it at MWC 2018. If true, one can assume that the Mi 6X could come to India as the Mi A2 Android One smartphone.
