Youth shot dead over argument during cricket match

New Delhi, Feb 20: In a spine-chilling incident that took place on Sunday in Delhi, a 23-year-old was reportedly shot dead by two persons over an argument during a cricket match.

The argument took place between them on Friday.

The victim was allegedly shot dead by them while he was returning home after playing another cricket match in south-west Delhi's Chhawla on Sunday morning.

The police have already arrested the accused duo. According to police, the accused have claimed that the victim Dinesh alias Mangu had a tiff with them and hit them on February 17 when they argued with him on the cricket field while playing for a rival team.

The victim allegedly snatched their phone from them. When the duo called him asking him to return the phone, he pruportedly challenged them to take it by force, said the police.

“The challenge infuriated the accused who decided to settle the issue through force,” said a senior police official. The victim was on a two-wheeler with another friend, who had a narrow escape when the shots were fired.

Dinesh was riding pillion and he fell off the scooter when the shots were fired.

Even as he lay bleeding, the accused again shot at him and drove away before his friend could raise an alarm. The friend immediately called up the police and Dinesh's family members after which he was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead, said the senior police officer.
