Pancham Saude, New Delhi: Zimbabwe batting second in the final ODI of the 5 match series against Sri Lanka required just 204 runs to win, and created history by winning the series against Lankan Lions. Earlier in the series, both nations managed to keep the final ODI as decider by winning two each from four matches.
Earlier in the match, Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to bowl first and managed to restrict Sri Lankan team at a low total of 203 runs, with Danushka Gunathilaka's 52 runs off 86 balls, and Asela Gunaratne hitting 59 runs off 81 balls.
After restricting Lankan team to 203 runs, Zimbabwe had a very good start with openers having a 73 run partnership, after which Solomon Mire was bowled by Gunaratne 14.2 over. It was Hamilton Masakadza who scored highest for the Zimbabwe team with 73 runs off 86 balls.
With this series win, Zimbabwe has created history as this is theirs first-ever series win over Sri Lanka and this is also their first away win in 8 years.
